The Jackson 5 burst onto the scene just as the 1970s began, and started the decade with four #1 songs in a row! It all started in January with “I Want You Back,” (which we highlighted back on January 30th).
Before anyone could take a breath, their second number #1 came two months later, when today's “Great Song of the '70s” bulldozed it's way to the top by knocking off a little tune called “Let It Be!”
It all seemed so easy...as easy as 1-2-3! As simple as Do-Re-Mi!
Some people believe that “ABC” was the first disco song. That's debatable, but one thing's for sure: It's a great dance tune...and incredibly catchy, too!
The song holds all sorts of dubious honors: It's one of the shortest titles ever to hit #1, and it's alphabetically the first song on Billboard's all-time list of #1 hits.
Strangely, it only charted in 3 countries, and one of them WASN'T Canada! The other two were the UK (#8), and Belgium (#24).
Nonetheless, “ABC” is a “Great Song of the '70s...and in 2016, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame!
