A Love Song (1974) 2/14/21 Anne Murray

Updated: Feb 23, 2021

Happy Valentine's Day!

In looking over the year 1974, I found "A Love Song" that's perfect for today...literally!

In early 1973, Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina recorded a "A Love Song" for their "Full Sail" album, but didn't release it as a single.

At roughly the same time, Anne Murray was looking for songs to include in her next album, scheduled to be released at the end of the year.

Anne had already scored a hit with "Danny's Song," written by Kenny and highlighted here back on 10/21/20: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCuuuk/posts/220110642795724

Naturally, Anne wanted to check out the rest of the Loggins & Messina catalogue, and when she found "A Love Song," she fell in love with it.

So much so, she decided to name the album, "Love Song" and release the song as the first single in December of 1973.

By the time Valentine's Day 1974 rolled around, the song was quickly climbing up the charts...on its way to major success in the US, and her home country of Canada.

In fact, in Canada, it pulled off the "trifecta:" #1 on the Top 40, Adult Contemporary and Country Charts! In the US, it went to #1 on the AC Chart, #5 on the Country Chart and #12 on the Hot 100!

"A Love Song:" Truly a "Great Song" for Valentine's Day...in 1974, and now!
