Give Me Just a Little More Time - Chairmen of the Board (1970) 8/5/22

When the songwriting/producing team of Holland, Dozier, and Holland broke away from Motown records in the late '60s, they became a constant thorn in Motown's side. In fact, Motown filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the trio.

Even so, Brian, Lamont and Edward not only started their own label, Invictus/Hot Wax Records, they wrote and produced for a number of Detroit-based groups.

They even hired Motown's house band, The Funk Brothers" to play on THEIR records.

Motown kept cranking out hits, but it turns out that Detroit was big enough for BOTH companies.

Holland, Dozier and Holland avoided further problems with Motown by writing and producing under the collective pseudonym of Edythe Wayne, and the hits just kept on coming.

Today's "Great Song of 1970" was a perfect case in point.

"Give me Just a Little More Time" by the Chairmen of the Board put the distinctive voice of singer General Johnson to work on a song that ultimately went to #3 on The Hot 100, #8 on Billboard's Rhythm & Blues Chart and #9 across the Detroit River in Canada. It sold well over a million copies.

In 1992, Australian singer Kylie Minogue released a cover version that reached #2 on the British charts and sold more than 325,000 copies!

"Give Me Just a Little More Time:" Hollard, Dozier, and Holland sticking it to Motown with a "Great Song o 1970" from The Chairman of the Board!

And let's not forget Kylie Minogue from 1992!
