Today's "Great Song of the '70s" is a beautiful ballad about longing for simpler times.
John Denver was at his wistful best when he wrote, recorded and released "Fly Away" from 1975 album, "Windsong," but to add a female touch (and some extra star power), he recruited the Olivia Newton-John to add her voice.
In 1976, "Fly Away" became a hit on THREE different charts in TWO different countries!
On the Easy Listening Chart, it went to #1 (US) and #2 (Canada). On the Top 40 Chart, it peaked at #13 in both the US and Canada. On the Country Chart, it reached #12 (US) and #28 (Canada).
Note: This was John's 6th #1 on the Easy Listening Chart. Pretty Impressive!
